Board Profiles
Gracie R. Agnew
Gracie R. Agnew
Gracie Agnew has spent her entire professional life working with children including: serving as the Director of Instruction for the Henry County Schools, being the principal of four schools and the assistant principal at several others.

It is no wonder that one of her priorities as a Harvest Foundation board member is education. Her interests are closely aligned with the goals of the foundation including: providing a quality education; health and wellness; positive avenues for youth that focus on physical, mental, moral and intellectual growth; economic and cultural growth; and maintaining safe and drug free communities.
Robert M. Davis
Robert M. Davis - President
Bob Davis has served as the general manager of an area company and as an Army officer. He moved to the Martinsville area in 1992 because of the region's high quality of life.

Bob was also elected Chairman of the Southern Virginia Recreational Facilities Authority which will manage the Soccer Complex and Uptown Arena that are being constructed by funds from a Harvest grant. Following his retirement, Bob chose to increase his volunteer time.
Donald R. Hodges
Donald R. Hodges
Don Hodges, President of West Window Corporation, has made his number one concern as a Harvest Foundation board member to make Martinsville and Henry County the residence of choice by enhancing opportunities and quality of life.

Don believes the community needs to tap into the natural resources of the area by promoting the mountains, rivers, lakes, and climate that makes a marketable community. He also is excited about the planned sports complexes and improving education opportunities.
James McClain
James McClain, II
James McClain, the Vice President-Administration of Southwestern Virginia Gas Company, works every day to provide an essential service to the community. He grew up in Martinsville and returned after graduating from Vanderbilt University.

James' interests are evident in areas that he freely gives his time. He has served as Chairman of the Education Committee for the Chamber of Commerce, was a founding board member of the local Boys & Girls Club, was a Trustee of Carlisle School, and is a member of the local YMCA board and the Immediate Past President of the Workforce Investment Board. He wants to do everything possible to provide a positive impact on the community and feels that The Harvest Foundation is a key avenue to accomplishing his goal.
Martha W. Medley
Martha W. Medley - Secretary
Martha White Medley, a partner in Daniel, Medley & Kirby, P.C., has a history for giving back to community. Now, being a board member of The Harvest Foundation is a perfect fit.

Martha currently serves on the Board of Carlisle School, the Board of the Charles B. Keesee Educational Fund and on the Board of Trustees of her church, where she was the first woman appointed as a trustee. She is a former member and president of the Charity League of Martinsville & Henry County and former board of director of the Virginia Museum of Natural History Foundation. Martha was recently inducted as a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation, an honor conferred on one percent of the practicing lawyers in Virginia.
Doug Payne
Doug Payne
Doug Payne, the Chief Financial Officer of Stanley Furniture, believes that education is a key factor in the future success of our community.

Doug, who has also served on the boards of Memorial Hospital, the United Way, and Patrick Henry Community College Foundation, feels that educational opportunities can help make Martinsville and Henry County a community of choice. He is proud of The Harvest Foundation's investment in preschool through 12th grade education and the New College Institute. As a member of The Harvest Foundation board he also hopes to promote life-long learning that will create economic development through a better educated workforce.
Leonard S. Poirer
Leonard S. Poirer, M.D.
Len Poirier, a graduate of U.C.L.A., is a Radiologist with Piedmont Diagnostic Radiology and moved to Martinsville in 1993 because he believed in the opportunities and value of the community.

Len's interests that led to his membership on The Harvest Foundation board include economic development and quality of life issues. Health and wellness also is a major concern, as he sees on a daily basis how health not only affects the individual but also the community as a whole. Through his efforts at The Harvest Foundation, he believes he can have an impact in the well being of the entire community.
W. Dan Prince
W. Dan Prince, M.D.
Dan Prince, a Physician with Carilion Medical Associates, works each day to keep area residents healthy. He also sees his service on The Harvest Foundation Board as an extension of his life's work.

Health and Wellness programs are so important to the community, according to Dan, and he is happy that he can help promote healthy living through the programs supported by the foundation.
Simone Redd
Simone Redd - Treasurer
Simone Redd spends each day working with small businesses and the citizens of the Martinsville- Henry County community as the President and CEO of Imperial Savings & Loan Association. Despite all of the help she provides through her occupation, she is always looking for other ways to assist the community. That is why she agreed to be on The Harvest Foundation Board.

Simone has previously served on the boards of Adult Day Care, Boys and Girls Club, Piedmont Arts Association, and the United Way. She currently serves on the boards of MARC Workshop and FOCUS, along with being a member of several business and church related organizations. She has a variety of interests including education, culture, quality of life, economic welfare and improving and sustaining the community's health services.
Joseph A. Roach
Joseph A. Roach
Joe Roach, the Chief Executive Officer of the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County, is the lead authority on the health care needs of the community.

It is this expertise that is of great benefit to the goals of The Harvest Foundation. His mission to provide health care for the community fits perfectly with The Harvest Foundation's mission to, "research and responsibly invest in programs and initiatives to address local challenges in health, education, and welfare."
Marshall W. Stowe
Marshall W. Stowe
Marshall Stowe has helped businesses and area citizens as a commercial banker for 39 years. However, it is his efforts inside and outside of his profession that make Marshall's input on The Harvest Foundation board a great benefit to the community.

Marshall currently serves on the boards of New College Institute Foundation and Virginia Baptist Children's Home and Family Services. Formally, he was chairman of The Harvest Foundation Board, Patrick Henry Community College Board of Trustees, Henry County Industrial Development Authority and the Martinsville and Henry County Chamber of Commerce. He served on boards of the area United Way, American Red Cross, Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County, Piedmont Arts Association and the Blue Ridge Regional Library. Marshall is a member of The Harvest Foundation board and many others because he believes in giving of himself for the benefit of the community.
Paul B. Toms
Paul B. Toms, Jr. - Vice President
Paul Toms, Jr., is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hooker Furniture Corporation. Paul is busy in many furniture related organizations and boards.

Paul serves on The Harvest Foundation Board because of his concern about improving the quality of life and education in the region and improving economic opportunity for all of its citizens.
