Martinsville officials continue to want to see the New College Institute (NCI) evolve into a satellite campus of an accredited four-year college or university.
That desire is expressed in the city’s updated strategic plan, adopted by Martinsville City Council on Tuesday.
Established in 2006, NCI is funded by the state and The Harvest Foundation. It provides local access to higher-level courses needed to earn certain bachelor’s and master’s degrees from colleges and universities statewide. The degrees generally are ones needed to pursue careers for which professionals are in demand in Southern Virginia.
