MARTINSVILLE – An upcoming fundraiser is aimed at helping more women get breast cancer screenings.

During the first week of October, Chatmoss Country Club and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County will host the second annual Pink for the Week fundraiser to benefit the Ladies First MHC Community Breast Health Initiative.

The four-day event will feature a kickoff party, tennis tournament, walk, luncheon and golf tournament.

The goal is to unite community members and organizations around the cause of fighting breast cancer locally through awareness of the disease and fundraising, according to Beth Sibbick, one of the event’s organizers.

Last year, the event raised more than $11,000 for Ladies First, she said, adding that organizers hope to exceed that amount this year.

Representing the country club, Sibbick and Carin Gregory are working with the hospital and the Martinsville Henry County Coalition for Health and Wellness to plan the event.
