Letter from the Board President

Dear Friends,

Like the basketballs that will soon be bouncing around the new Uptown Arena and Fieldhouse, the Martinsville-Henry County community is currently on the rebound. In the resilient spirit that has always been a part of this area of southern Virginia, the people of Martinsville and Henry County are persevering through hard times right now. But our future is looking bright.

Since 2002, The Harvest Foundation has worked with members of the community to make a large and long-lasting impact in the community’s overall health, education, and welfare. We are starting to see the results of our efforts. I am especially proud of the Foundation’s accomplishments and partnership with the K-12 Initiative and all the behind-the-scenes work that went into the creation of the New College Institute and the two sports complexes. Although overall changes in the community’s health will take more time to measure, we have already laid the groundwork for improved conditions with the creation of the Health and Wellness Coalition and the Activate Martinsville and Henry County Initiative.

Our accomplishments over the last five years and those to come will move us closer to our goal of making Martinsville and Henry County a community that people will visit and want to stay;  a place that keeps its small-town character while growing in opportunities. We are a community of optimistic, perservering folks with a heart for what lies ahead.

Sincerely,

Bob Davis
