Our Impact
![]() However, the overall impact that The Harvest Foundation has had and will continue to have on the Martinsville-Henry County community can be best expressed by some of the leaders within our community:
“The Harvest Foundation has been and continues to be a tremendous asset to the Martinsville-Henry County community. Our quality of life has significantly improved due to the collaboration and innovation of The Harvest Foundation Board and staff. The future is filled with excitement and prosperity!” Clarence Monday, City Manager, Martinsville
"The Harvest Foundation is an integral part of the Martinsville-Henry County community. Our County staff and our Board of Supervisors have found The Harvest Foundation to be a great community partner, and we all have the same goal - to advance our community and help make our future better than our past." Benny Summerlin, County Administrator, Henry County
“The support that The Harvest Foundation has extended is invaluable in assisting us in our pursuit for continuous improvement. Students may not remember the textbook their teacher used, but they remember the teacher who inspired them to achieve. By supporting opportunities for professional development for our teachers and administrators, we believe we will have a lasting impact on the lives of our students for years to come!” Dr. Scott Kizner, Superintendent, Martinsville City Schools
“The Harvest Foundation’s assistance with the K-12 Initiative has allowed us to invest in and focus on the professional development of our teachers and administrators. This has led to greater levels of student achievement and overall school improvements since the program started in 2004. The teachers within the Henry County School System now anticipate a continuous level of professional growth and are eager to learn and use new techniques in their classrooms. By making lasting investments in the schools’ human capital now, we will improve the community’s overall workforce in the near future.” DeWitt House, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, Henry County Schools
"The Harvest Foundation provided the funding to launch the MHC Coalition for Health and Wellness and we are grateful for the ongoing funding and support. Our community needs wellness and prevention programs in order to decrease the incidence of and complications from, obesity, high blood pressure and cholesterol, arthritis, diabetes and heart disease. Also needed are programs addressing the health challenges this community faces due to persistent negative trends in population growth, economics and employment. Without support and funding from The Harvest Foundation we would simply be unable to develop, promote and sustain initiatives to address these issues and work towards a healthier future for Martinsville and Henry County." Barbara Jackman, Executive Director, Martinsville-Henry County Health and Wellness Coalition |
