Community Vitality
The Harvest Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life in Martinsville and Henry County by: supporting services to the disadvantaged, increasing community economic opportunity, and making the community a desirable place to live, work, and play. The priority area of community vitality is quite broad and encompasses support for a large variety of studies, initiatives, long-term programs, and coalition-building activities. The Harvest Foundation's ultimate goal in this area is to sustain a continuously improving quality of life that helps make our community a choice place to live for all residents.
Grantmaking Areas
Family Independence- To provide financial assistance to programs and organizations working with citizens in crisis situations in order to meet the basic needs of food, water, shelter, clothing, and warmth. Additionally, The Harvest Foundation supports organizations assisting members of our commuity who are facing significant challenges in their daily lives. Previous programs included within this grantmaking area are quite diverse and include: providing support for family services and domestic violence prevention services; the development of community centers and a community foundation; assessing community housing needs; and providing assistance to nonprofits to increase their effectiveness and operational sustainability.
Economic and Community Development- To increase family and
individual income by providing financial
assistance
to programs and organizations working to: develop and implement strategies in economic development; provide economic revitalization to Uptown Martinsville; encourage new businesses to locate in the Martinsville-Henry County Area; support small business and entrepreneurial development initiatives; and create a climate where existing and new businesses and local entrepreneurs can create community wealth and quality jobs.
Quality of Life- To make the community a more desirable place by supporting programs and organizations that work in the areas of: community beautification; historic preservation; environmental protection; recreational development; livable and walkable community initiatives; community character and connections; as well as culture and arts promotion.
