The Bassett Public Library Association is the owner of the building in which the Bassett Historical Center is housed and heads the capital campaign for the Center’s building fund. The Center itself is leased to the Blue Ridge Regional Library as a branch in their system and is governed by the BRRL’s Governing Board which also oversees the management of the Center. With its roots dating back to 1939, the Bassett Historical Center is home to thousands of historical and genealogical collections. By highlighting the rich history of the Martinsville-Henry County area and surrounding counties, the Center also serves as a local tourist attraction. Patrons from all over the country and the world have browsed the acclaimed Civil War, African American, and Native American collections to gain insights on personal family histories as well as for research for publications.
