Altrusa is an international organization that provides community service, develops leadership in it members, fosters international understanding, and encourages friendship through a network of executives and professionals in many diverse fields of endeavor. Altrusa International, Inc. is comprised of over 400 clubs worldwide, with a total membership of approximately 11,000 in 19 countries.

Who We Are:

The Martinsville and Henry County Club was organized in July, 1941 with 24 members and was chartered in August, 1941.  The High Point, North Carolina Altrusa Club was the sponsor.  Altrusa International, Inc. of Martinsville and Henry County, Virginia is one of 19 active clubs in District Two with a total membership of over 450.  The club is an organization of professionals dedicated to service, patriotism, efficiency and service.  The Martinsville and Henry County Club meets on the third Saturday of each month for breakfast beginning at 9 o'clock.

What We Do:

• "Phill-Up the Bus" project to collect school supplies for needy children
• Provide favors and decorate table for the "Readers of the Month Luncheon" at Irisburg Elementary School
• Support for Citizens Against Family Violence Shelter, SPCA Shelter and other local agencies
• Assist with the Book Fair and provide scholarships for students at Carver Elementary School
• Provide books for babies born at the local hospital
• Maintain a "Reading Nook" at the local hospital
• Provide financial support to local agencies:

• Mental Health Association Elementary School Book Fairs
• Adult Day Care Adult Literacy Project
• SAAA/Meals-On-Wheels Free Clinic
