Instead of sitting in classrooms and riding buses all day, many area students got out and got their hearts pumping with events scheduled as part of International Walk to School Week.  BikeWalk Virginia gave away five bikes to students who won drawings at each of the eight participating schools. Magna Vista High School as well as Irisburg, Sanville, Stanleytown and John Redd Smith Elementary Schools and Collinsville Primary participated in events at their schools during Walk to School Day.

At Irisburg, students walked all week. Kindergarten through second-grade students walked inside while students in the third through fifth grades walked outside the school.

One of Irisburg’s kindergarten teachers, kicked the week off by walking the 12-mile trek from her home in Brosville to the school. In Martinsville, Patrick Henry Elementary School students met at J. Frank Wilson Park and walked to their school from there. Martinsville High School students walked around the track at their school.
