Martinsville Bulletin: Program educates children about what it takes to become a doctor

Evy Bryant, a third-grade student at Stanleytown Elementary School, said Saturday she wants to be a scientist when she grows up.

She would like to help find cures for diseases and she also would like to study animals, the Bassett 9-year-old said.

Her first stop at the "So You Want to Be a Doctor" medical education fair Saturday at the Historic John D. Bassett Event Center was at an exhibit titled "Microscopic World – SEM Images," showing what science and medicine look like under a microscope, and seeing what the Scanning Electron Microscope has captured and what science and medicine look like closer than close up. The exhibit was by the Virginia Museum of Natural History and ICSM (Integrative Centers for Science and Medicine).
