MARTINSVILLE – All students can learn if they have help from caring, skilled teachers and access to the right educational materials and other resources, Donna Dillard believes.
Dillard, the Martinsville School Board’s newest member, was administered the oath of office Thursday night by Martinsville Circuit Court Clerk Ashby Pritchett during a special meeting of the board.
When it comes to education, “the heart of the matter is the students,” she said.
Dillard, a Martinsville native, said she applied to serve on the school board because her two grown children attended the city schools and “it was a little discouraging to me to hear negative things” about the schools in recent months, such as none of the schools being fully accredited under the state Standards of Learning (SOLs).
She wants to help the schools improve and be the best they can be, she indicated.
